Great beginner's setup!
Let me say a few things about myself so for context. I am new to fly fishing, been wanting to get into it for a couple of years now after watching a buddy fly fish in Wyoming. I am a spin-caster by trade, and so my review comes from that perspective. I normally fish with a light Shakespeare graphite rod and Lew's SS300 reel.
What I like about the Redington Minnow package:
Fit and finish is good.
Rod seems decent quality.
Graphite reel is pre-loaded with backing, floating line, and a 8+ft. tapered leader (plenty long enough for many flies).
Reel seat and cork handle are definitely better quality than my Shakspeare spinning rod.
This is marketed as a kid's beginner kit, but this is not necessarily true! After scrutinizing the specs, I could not determine what makes this a "kid's" outfit, so I purchased through Sierra Trading Post for $34.95 and could not be happier. I am stoked with this fly setup. It is obviously...
